Mrs. Kannaday's Kindergarten

Welcome to Mrs. Kannaday's Kindergarten Classroom!

Welcome to the start of the school year 2019-2020! I am so excited to meet all my new friends!!! This will be an exciting year, a time of wonder and questions, a time of curiosity and sharing, and a time of growth, both socially and academically for your child. This letter is designed to introduce the kindergarten experience to you. It contains information about early childhood education, activities your child will be doing, and what supplies your child will need for kindergarten.Today we try to instruct the whole child. This means that we provide activities that develop the mind, body and spirit. Our primary task as kindergarten teachers is to make your child feel good aboutself/herself. We know that when your child feels good about himself/herself, he/she will feel good about others and will be able to learn and develop their potential. We also know that young children need to become involved to learn. They need to feel, taste, smell, hear, see, to fully experience most activities. Becoming involved in an experience often means lots of noise and activity. When you visit my room don’t be surprised to hear singing, see hopping, painting, engaging in creative writing and observing children playing with blocks, puzzles, and clay. I feel that it is important to have each child experience all that kindergarten has to offer. In our kindergarten program, we do lots of art and creative writing activities based upon the Kindergarten curriculum. The finished product that your child brings home may not seem well done to you, but I can assure you that your child will be delighted with his/her efforts. Praise, praise, praise whatever your child brings home and help him/her when they ask for your assistance. As this exciting year begins, please remember to enjoy your child…Praise …Encourage your precious one to tell you about their day…Read stories …Laugh …Allow your child to read to you…And most of all, tell your precious one you care! I promise that I will do the same each day!

Notes for HAPPY Kindergartener

  • Send your child to school in clothes for learning. Wash and wear items are the best. For safety, please have your child wear tie, buckle, or Velcro shoes and sneakers.
  • Print names on all clothing that your child may take off at school: sweaters, coats, raincoats, caps, jackets, etc.
  • Print your child’s name on his/her lunch box. If you send lunch money to school, please send it in an envelope with your child’s name, pin#, and what the money is for. All checks should be payable to Tatum Ridge School.
  • Our school hours are 8:30-3:15pm. The first bell rings at 8:20 and the children are admitted to the room at that time. The second bell rings at 8:30. The children who arrive after the second bell are marked tardy. Please try to send your child to school no later than 8:20 and please let me know if any changes regarding dismissal and who will be picking up your child.
  • Please keep your child at home if he/she is ill. Recovery will be swifter at home. When your child returns from an absence, he/she should bring a written excuse for their absence.
  • If your child should become ill during the day, we have a terrific health room. The aide is on duty in the health room each day that school is in session.
  • Occasionally your child will bring home messages about special school activities. Please read them and thank your child for being a good messenger!!

  • Tatum Ridge Elementary School has a very active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). This organization is for all parents and teachers. The PTO plans many activities that support our children. Please join this worthwhile organization and get involved in your child’s education!!!
